Our organization is an hermandad, a brotherhood firmly founded on Mexican-American or Chicano culture, an alternative to the more traditional “Greek” fraternal system. The organization is named O eMe Te (a phonetic rendering of the letters O M and T). O eMe Te stands for Oquichtli Macuilli Tonatiuh a Nahuatl (Aztec) term shared among our members. We originated here at Washington State University for students of Mexican-American, Chicano, and Latino backgrounds on 21 January 1996. We intend to participate in cultural events where we spread our message of culture, wisdom, empowerment, and carnalismo, the kind of friendship that aspires to brotherhood.
